If their life is wrapped up in social media or the internet then they don't have
much motivation to get out and be mobile. Many of us are old enough that we didn't have the internet (or it wasn't as significant a part of our lives) growing up so for us mobility was freedom. If you have access to friends and entertainment at home it would probably feel like more of a burden of responsibility to have to get out and do something.
