Yes, talk to tax attorney. That said, they are trying to scare you into
contacting them. Once you do reach out and contact them (preferably through an attorney), they’ll become okay to work with. Contrary to popular belief, the IRS is not the worst creditor to have. Once you’re engaged with them, they’re generally pretty mellow and will work with you.

There are a few ways you can really draw the IRS’ wrath. One of those is if you’re an employer who withheld employees’ FICA taxes from their checks and used them for yourself. Another is if have a public profile and you’re using it to argue that the 16th Amendment was never ratified and the income tax is unconstitutional. If you’re not doing that, they’re pretty apathetic.
