I watched the Utah State - Weber State game so you don't have to
Utah State has issues - it wasn't just a bad luck game or Weber State playing out of their minds.

Utah State has a couple of things going for it. Despite their team getting dominated, they D-Line dominated Weber State. Their linebackers played decently for the most part - only occasionally getting beat on the outside runs or from the Wildcat QB. USU's Front 7 should not be a pushover. Their return game also looks like it could good, and we might worried getting beat by another waterbug returner (though he's probably not on the same tier as what we faced first week with returning consensus AA Battie).

With that out of the way...their receiving corps dropped off a cliff. Receivers were dropping everything, were rarely getting separation, weren't being a threat deep, etc. etc. If they have a TE, he didn't do anything that game. The O-Line, IMO, got outplayed virtually the whole game by Weber State's D-Line (and they tried to run it A LOT). Bonner had one really bad interception, but the rest were deflections. He didn't look like the same QB we played, but despite what the crowd thought, the offensive problems were not his fault IMO. Their defensive backs weren't nearly as bad as their receivers and O-Line, but they got beat their fair share, and it would have been worse if Weber State's QB was more accurate. Outside of the D-Line, their defense looks really undersized and it showed as they were dropping like flies during the game (at least 10 Aggies went down during the game - none which looked like they were serious).

USU's play calling was pretty atrocious too. The run wasn't working yet they insisted on running into the brick wall instead of at least trying to heat up the passing game. Some weird 3rd down play calls that seemed to not have a great shot at getting to the sticks. On defense, a couple of receivers were left completely uncovered at snap for some trivial WSU 3rd downs.

If BYU has a bad day on offense, I could see USU's defense keep the score down, but the offense doesn't look like it will be capable of sustained drives. If they played USF a hundred times, my money would be on USF to win most of them. I think USU will need at least a +3 turnover margin and a bad day from our offense to have a hope in our game. There are other games which seem more likely to be trap games.
