The last stat is the most telling IMO. Only a third of the time are we accurately predicting what the opposing offense did. It’s the defensive coaches job to have the right personnel and play called to match what the opposing offense is going to do, to give their team the best chance of success. He only exception to that is if their is a huge mismatch in skill and you always have to guard against your weaknesses. But were we really out matched by Wyoming??

I know data from the entire game wasn’t collected, but of the time periods that BYU struggled the most was when we didn’t have the right number of guys in the right spots. AKA play calling. I know that sounds obvious when stated that way, but it just highlights our weakness on the defensive side of the ball.

Great analysis. I can’t wait to see more. I wish every game of every team had an analysis like this. That way we could compare other D coordinators to see if we’re being too hard on our own.
