Most popular guy on the team when things aren't going well is the backup QB.
His mom should know this. She is just protecting her own which pretty much what any mother would do.
He has been bad this year. Probably not all his fault, but she can't blame fans for wanting a change with his performance or lack thereof. College football fans aren't very sympathetic to bad play especially fans used to winning a lot.
