By using 24 as the standard it somewhat compensates for the fewer possessions

The average offense in college football scores 27 points on 12 possessions. BYU averages between 11 and 12 possessions per game so I am spotting them 3 point or one possession. Also with 27 being the average, only asking the offense to score 24 seems like a low bar to me.
