You have a 60/90 day window to accept the cobra policy. Don't sign up unless you know you will need it. Money saved if you end up not needing the coverage. Verify the window and that you can do this first. I was in this situation a few years ago and was told by the company administering the policy that they would have to honor the policy even if I signed after the fact, as long as i signed within the offer window.
