Then this year in the first offseason after NIL and the Portal became a major thing, we actually had guys who wanted to leave and we had to fill spots, and even then we still only took 3 transfers:

The landscape of CBB roster building has drastically shifted and if you want to be competitive you need to be good at HS recruiting and retention, and recruiting well out of the Portal. So far Pope got his first class this season of Hall, Saunders, and Toolson, and they look pretty promising so far. He also got BYU highest rated recruit ever in Colin Chandler. Portal wise I think he has recruited above average compared to the natural roadblocks and problems getting non-lds/non-byu kids here. And in the 3 year stretch Pope has been here, we have had the most success in the program since the Jimmer years.
