Kalani is absolutely a disciplinarian and he does it the right way, not in public.
Not his defensive strategy. It was Tuiaki's and Kalani is not a micromanager...you know, like his mentor LaVell.
What has Kalani done? He has been the CEO of the program. He has worked with the Honor Code office, University President (more $ for coaching staff), and successfully cut through a lot of the bureaucratic red tape that has hampered BYU from the LaVell days. Many of this isn't public, but has far-ranging and positive effects. This is all on top of the significant improvement that has come from the D since he took over. You don't change scheme mid-season, you work on fundamentals and technique which has been very apparent for those that have watched closely. Not perfect mind you based on scheme and personnel, but so much better.
He is the right person and now that he can hire a new DC who will bring in his own scheme and coaches, we should see a change similar to when Grimes took over.
