The idea is to win but this coaching staff struggles mightely to put teams away
Some criticism is warranted even though BYU still won the game.
The reason this is so is because eventually BYU will lose one or more of these games when they play better competition week to week. Secondly, if (and it’s a large if) BYU does end up having a very good team again, score differential will still matter with perception. Even with a 12 team playoff, perception will play a large part in seeding. If BYU ever has a team that qualifies, you want to get the best seed possible. It’s all about best practices. Putting teams away is one of those things.

I have never liked getting two scores ahead then slowly letting the other team come back playing conservative.
