They'd been fighting, and he was trying to make it up to her, because he knew she really wanted a dog. However, she was a HS senior going to college (how will she care for it?), her brother is allergic to dogs, and her mom was bitten a couple of times and is terrified of them. Oh, and we live on .2 acres--not very much for a shepherd. None of this made any headway with our daughter and her boyfriend. She was instantly smitten by the puppy, and hated us for telling her she had to give it away. He used it to turn her against us, telling us we knew nothing about dogs, and this was a perfect dog for a college freshmen in an apartment (what?). He promised her they'd take care of it together. He kept pressuring us to let her keep it, and would have her come over and snuggle/bond with it while he kept it temporarily.
It was so ugly, and I'm still trying to forgive this boyfriend over it. I'm glad we stuck to our guns though. There was no way she was going to be able to keep it, and we would have been stuck with a dog we didn't want, that my son couldn't even be around.
