He was respectful and he reminded us all about things we should think about, not holding himself out as better, but instead fighting for something he thinks is important and how it impacts him emotionally. Again, nothing wrong with that.

He wasn't objecting to disagreements or differing opinions as you suggest. He was expressing his opinion, for which you called him ridiculous among a few other words. You two clearly have differing opinions, but your delivery fails compared to his. See, there is me not being so nice. I should do better.
