1) That only works if Utah also beats USC to get Ohio St into the playoff
Otherwise you end up with
- Georgia (CFP)
- TCU (CFP)
- USC (CFP)
- Michigan (CFP)
- Ohio St (at-large)
- Alabama (SEC)
- Tennessee (at-large)
- Penn St .... out of NY6
with Purdue, Washington, Tulane/UCF, Clemson/UNC and Kansas St claiming the rest as auto-bids. You haven't changed the number of B1G teams in the NY6. By elevating Purdue in, you've knocked Penn St out.
2) even if you somehow end up with 4 B1G teams in NY6 games (which 100% requires USC lose), then it's not a guarantee that BYU gets the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. In that case, BYU may be selected for the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. But they also have other options. Given our 7-5 performance this year, they might or might not opt to select BYU for that bowl even if there is a spot available.
