The point is you’re doing the wrong order. Learn Italian and/or Spanish first &
The Latin will make complete sense to you. Doing it the other way around is not an effective way to learn Italian or Spanish (or Portuguese).

If you can read Italian, you can read 99% of Latin inscriptions.

They don't teach Latin after Spanish/Italian either.

I learned Latin first and the other Romance languages are a breeze. Doing it the other way I'm sure makes Latin

Yes Latin is much more difficult to learn than the Latinate languages, so

Which Latin-speaking mission did you get called to back in the 1300s?

Learn Latin if you want to learn Latin. But not as base for learning the others.

Even knowing Latin the inscriptions are frequently tough to decipher as they contain a lot of abbreviations.

Wasn't Lucius was the kid in Gladiator?
Sea Chicken

Probably. There were only about a dozen common first names - so few that they abbreviated them.

And it wasn't even built by Agrippa. It was built by Hadrian.

Yep. Original was built by Agrippa and Hadrian later built the dome.

Built in stages over many years but the dome was the engineering masterpiece.
