When the large commission check is paid, I have my company temporarily change...
...my withholdings to "99". That way the majority of my commission isn't absorbed in taxes. Then I immediately change it back the next paycheck to my "normal" witholdings. You still have to deal with that influx on your annual tax returns obviously, but it buys you some time depending on how large the commission chunk is.
