Gas prices are so strange sometimes

Been down here in the St. George area for the last month and there are Chevron stations at two consecutive I-15 interchanges. The price at one of them (Washington Parkway) is $3.66/gallon and the price at the one 2-3 miles down the freeway (Green Spring Drive) is $4.50/gallon. This discrepancy has been this way every time I've noticed over the last few weeks. What's the deal?

The Maverik at Washington Parkway I think is about $3.45, so it's also 15 cents cheaper than the Chevron right across

That's not what's going on here though. Both stations I mentioned in the OP are Chevron. They are 3 miles apart, both

My speculation - from my answer above - is that some service stations bought their gas inventory at really high prices
