That would be an odd strategy considering this station is at the far north end of St. George and CA people would have
already passed 10 gas stations with lower prices before they ever see this one. It isn't like there's only one station for miles around.

Maverik at the Parkway. No competition at Green Springs. (Pending Maverik...)

The Maverik at Washington Parkway I think is about $3.45, so it's also 15 cents cheaper than the Chevron right across

Chevron stations are the deal. Always expensive.

That's not what's going on here though. Both stations I mentioned in the OP are Chevron. They are 3 miles apart, both

My speculation - from my answer above - is that some service stations bought their gas inventory at really high prices

Interesting thought. I don't know what's causing it, but there definitely seems to be something making it so that the

My view is they are trying to rip off unsuspecting CA motorists!

‘CA’ being generic for MANY out-of-staters that pull in and thoughtlesly fill up

Sure, but that doesn’t change the point. It’s a distinction without a difference.

That Chevron is probably trying to compete for highest price with River Rd Texac

I'd be more worried if there wasn't some difference between stations.

84 cents different from the exact same company at consecutive freeway exits?

Same brand, probably different owners, even though they have the same brand

Some stations have 87 as the lowest octane and they charge more for it

Chevron and Texaco are both supplied by Chevron. Quality diff is more perception
