Regarding the PAC-12 and USC/UCLA, I found these two slides from the sicem/Big 12 expansion analysis interesting...
Basically, it calls the four California schools and Washington the "PAC-5" and suggests they'd never split from one another, particularly the four CA schools.
Less than a year later, USC and UCLA announced they were leaving for the BigTen.
