the reason very few 4's play like Fouss in modern basketball is because...
...the game has evolved away from having 2 bigs occupy the paint. The modern game looks like that BYU team from 2019-20 where we spaced the floor and kept the ball moving forcing the defense to shift and adjust. In 2021-22 we had spacing problems with Lohner playing the 4 and Fouss playing the 5 because Lohner had no offensive skills to be on the perimeter and this allowed the guy defending him to slide off him and help defend the ball or the post. It left Fouss facing a lot of double-teams when he got a post touch.

We started to run into that again this year when Waterman lost his offensive mojo and was no longer a threat on the perimeter and defenses could then cheat off him and help defend on Fouss. It's why Pope was forced to play Robinson at the 4 a lot this year, to get someone on the perimeter that could be a perimeter threat and open things up for Fouss.
