bench and Emma needs to stay out of foul trouble. The reason last year's team did so well, is because we had 4 shooters on the floor at all times and Maria, pg, was willing to facilitate. Nani is better if she isn't the point guard and Mackey-Williams drives into traffic. Smiler isn't a point guard although Amari has been, I don't know if that is her strength. We don't have a mid-range shooter nor anyone willing to really help Lauren on the boards. I thought Rose would be that person but she is still too tentative. Even if Shaylee stayed, we wouldn't have won the WCC and wouldn't have made the tournament.
If you watch any good team, male or female, it is plug and play. Texas brought in 6 transfers. They got a gem with Shaylee. If you look at stats only, she isn't always the best overall, but if you watch her play, she is guarding her players intensely, altering shots and going for steals. She is the team's leading scorer. She's the only Texas player that has started each game.
She transferred because she graduated early, Judkins retired/fired and she wanted to be in the WNBA. She has mentioned in several interviews that she is a better player today than before. Her coach, Vic Schaefer, has said on numerous occasions that she bought into playing defense and is learning to give a hundred per cent each game. I don't know if Texas will make it to the Elite Eight, but they'll be a Sweet 16 team.
I'll tell you something else. Shaylee is a great representative for BYU and our basic beliefs. She's not a braggart and is content to let others do all the talking during interviews. She is trying to let her play speak for itself which it has since she was voted B-12 All-Tournament team.
