unfortunately, often the main criteria for being "called" is someone just above
you thinks you'll be half way dependable to show up and do the basic work required for a church calling. I'm not sure everyone is necessarily "chosen" by a higher authority. The scriptures warn us of guys like this. "Many are called but few are chosen". Anyway, that's just one interpretation and not necessarily doctrine. I also know that God "calls" everyone to the work but few are "chosen" because of various reasons such as disbelief, sin, circumstances etc.
