It all depends on what you like
My wife and I love soaking in the architecture and the culture when we travel. We like sitting at a sidewalk cafe, chatting, and people watching. If you want to hit all the highlights, then you should definitely familiarize yourself with the metro system and plan on hopping around the city that way. And if that's what you like, then I would recommend the main sites in the city: Notre-Dame de Paris, La Tour Eiffel, Sacre Coeur, Le Louvre, Les Champs D'Elysees or L'Arc de Triomphe. And don't forget Versailles, which is outside of Paris.

In terms of restaurants, the michelin guide is going to give you the best restaurants. But you're usually pretty safe when you find something a bit off the beaten path (so it's not too touristy, where they're counting on ignorant tourists not knowing any better). We've found some absolutely delightful little cafes or bistros near theaters, because that's where all the locals hang out.

I hope that helps!
