In all honesty, in real life, I've looked at my current employment and realized if my employer let me do everything I was capable of in just my current role, it would probably materialize into $500,000 more profit annually. If they just doubled my pay in return (allowing me to go from five figures to six figures income) I'd be happy.
Ruthlessly taking every penny you can get isn't a great long-term strategy.
We can call it a win/win, but I doubt we can say it was fair to BYU. I didn't even bring up recruiting. How much would a $40 million ESPN deal look side by side Utah's P12 status? Basically being able to tell recruits we are Notre Dame, so do you want Utah or Notre Dame?
