I think they were not good at adapting to the changes either and it doesn't sound like she's willing to accept that part of the equation.
She could have gone to a more online presence and used the store as more of a showroom. Maybe selling the store and moving into a location that was still relatively close to the original store and have limited inventory on hand but with the promise of next-day home delivery that would have come from their own Amazon store. The Go Fund is ridiculous and playing on sentimentality which is kind of gross. Companies go out of business, it happens. It's rough, I remember when my father's ticket company closed down after 20 years and it was rough on everyone, but before this whole Too Big to Fail and save all the small companies in the country because we're making everyone close down for two weeks during the pandemic, I think some business owners feel they are entitled to be saved.
