Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
I am saddened to share with you that our men’s basketball coach, Mark Madsen, has announced that he has accepted an offer to become head coach at the University of California, Berkeley. We appreciate his impressive work at Utah Valley University during his four seasons here.
Under his leadership, coach Madsen elevated our Wolverines to unprecedented success, winning the WAC championship and advancing to the semi-finals of the NIT for the first time. He carries a 70-50 record overall, which is evidence of his ability to build and inspire the teams he creates.
"Mark Madsen has taken our program to unprecedented never-seen-before heights," said Utah Valley athletic director Dr. Jared Sumsion. "I appreciate how much he cared about our student-athletes, and we thank him for his service to our program. We wish him and his family the very best in his new role at Cal."

Coach Madsen is returning to California and the area where he grew up. Before his nine seasons in the NBA, he played college basketball for Cal's rival, Stanford, and graduated from a nearby high school.
We will miss coach Madsen and wish him well in his future endeavors.
UVU will begin a national search for its next head coach immediately.
