Homeschooling wasn’t common growing up but the kid I knew who did played
basketball with us at school. I really liked him.

What I’ve seen with parents who do homeschool is two buckets-

1) Most common- parents homeschool but they really are lost and kids are completely left behind. Also for some reason really not well behaved.

2) Parents Get it and embrace it- exception is mom or dad really educate their kids and they are very bright- it they combine with other parents and have this option to educate on subjects as a focus and another parent does another subject. They create this co-opt educational environment. Seems to work.

Just my opinion of what I generally see.

I love and appreciate a parents right to educate their kids. Think they should have that right. Im jealous of the flexibility they have. School is half a day and they get more done. They can go on trips in the name of education and get way more out of it than my kids in public school.

While my wife has the education and ability there’s no doubt some of our kids would have slowly fought and accomplished less verses public education.

We intentionally choose to live in a community that cost more but had a fantastic education K5-12. It paid off. I’d completely recommend it. I would be cautious about homeschooling just because I don’t trust parents to really do a good job but that doesn’t mean the government should ever tell them what they have to do.
