Well, I can tell you about my immediate family
I have a Utah plate
My SIL (Utah State grad) has a Utah State plate
My wife and my in-laws (BYU grads) don’t have BYU plates
My wife and my MIL don’t care
My FIL is a huge BYU fan but I don’t think he would spend the money on a plate. He lives in total darkness to save money from the electric bill
I bet those are the top two reasons. After that, who really cares?
