Brandon Miller is not going number 1 overall in most years. He’s not. That’s who you’re likely getting at pick 3. On the chance that Scoot slides, I don’t think he goes number 1 in any draft except for 2013 in the last 15 years. He could end up as a great prospect, but he does have serious question marks.
This draft isn’t deep because it’s filled with a bunch of number 1 picks. It’s deep because after Wembanyama, the next 8 guys could go anywhere depending on team fit and want. And then there are realistically another 24 guys that have a case as a lottery pick.
That’s great for the Jazz — with picks 9 and 16, you’re likely to get plenty of talent without a trade. Unless you have a Donovan Mitchell workout where you’re dead certain it’s gonna hit and hit big, there is no need for Utah to trade up and overpay to do it.
