I thought this new offering would be that ESPN/2/U/News would also now be available via streaming under their direct to consumer option like ESPN+ is.

Not that they will do a complete abandonment of linear providers.

They will be enhancing their potential...that said when enhancing their potential they may find their negotiations with linear providers means a lower carriage fee from them than they currently see. And ESPNs hope is that the DTC fees will make up for that.
