I actually like Ariel better in the live action. I'm with you 100%.

When I watched the cartoon as an adult with little girls I could not help but think she is a brat teenager who is kind of sticking it to her Dad for no good reason. She is one of the least favorites of all the Disney princesses as far as role models go. Much better in the live action.
