That's a no-brainer from the Olympic sports perspective.
From a strategic perspective, the Big 12 can show power and influence to draw schools away from the Big East, which is seen as a major basketball conference.
UConn definitely needs to improve their football program - they only attracted about 25K attendance last year in home games against regional rivals Boston College, Syracuse, and UMass. I know the long stretch of losing seasons and not even playing during COVID dug UConn football into a huge hole, but there are signs of life:
1) In 2022, UConn beat nearby rivals Boston College and UMass, plus Liberty and MWC Champ Fresno State. And, ESPN found UConn a bowl game from the ESPN bowl pool.
2) Like BYU, UConn fled a G5 conference for better opportunities. UConn has 4 or 5 P5 opponents on future schedules, including more home games against beatable Big Ten and ACC schools. UConn has been able to put together reasonable independent football schedules, similar to independent BYU schedules.
