We're getting new counters in our kitchen and 2 bathrooms, so I needed to disconnect the plumbing to those 3 sinks. Figured I'd disconnect it myself and then hire someone to reconnect if I couldn't figure it out (fairly new homeowner, never done anything with plumbing before). As I'm turning off the valves under the sink, one of them didn't work. At that point figured I'd just have a plumber come out and fix the valve and do the disconnects while he was at it.

I figured this was an easy job but wasn't sure what they would end up charging. Was prepared to be gouged, but was shocked when he quoted me $2,800! $2,800 to disconnect 3 sinks and reconnect them afterwards. This included $760 to install a kitchen faucet (that I have already purchased), and $250 to connect each bathroom faucet, among other things.

Ended up just paying the guy his $60 service charge and sending him on his way. FIL came out last night and helped me replace the valve, and then I disconnected the rest of it myself. Crisis averted, but man still shocked at how much they were wanting. The only thing I can think of is that they didn't want to do a job this small so they charged an obscene amount hoping I'd either pay it or send them away. Either way, lesson learned - don't use All Hours plumbing.
