Her teams have made the tournament 24 times, losing in the first round six times, advancing to the second round and beyond 18 times, nine times to the Sweet Sixteen and five times to the Elite Eight and one time as runner-up.

Are there a few programs more elite, a few, very few, UNC, Stanford, UCLA and Florida State but that's about it. Santa Clara has won the national title a few times under Jerry Smith but lost its prime conference rival which will hurt it down the road.

BYU is elite in Olympic sports. Let's hope the conference affiliation can help BYU rise in football and basketball.
