Which teams would have made the playoffs under the proposed 3-3-2-2-1 Model

The latest talk is 3 autobids for each of the B1G and SEC, 2 for the ACC and Big 12, and 1 G5 with 3 more at-large.  I started out uncertain about this... but frankly, this would be fantastic for the Big 12 and help them as much as any other conference.  Honestly, it's pretty decent.

Here's a list (with current membership) of what teams would have been in the Playoff each year.  The number ahead of the team is the playoff seed, the number (in parentheses) behind the team is their CFP rank.  Teams in bold are those who only make it due to auto-bid criteria.

The best part of this this is (somewhat amazingly) 46 of the current 68 P4 teams would have made the Playoffs at some point in the last decade - as best I can tell, the only exceptions are

  • Cal
  • Duke
  • NC State
  • SMU
  • Virginia Tech

B1G

  • Illinois
  • Maryland
  • Minnesota
  • Nebraska
  • Purdue
  • Rutgers

SEC

  • Arkansas
  • Kentucky
  • South Carolina
  • Vanderbilt

XII

  • Arizona St
  • BYU
  • Houston
  • Kansas
  • Texas Tech
