My understanding is a much higher percentage of airmen never made it home.
During the peak of daylight bombing raids they all took off in the morning knowing that something crazy, like 25% of them would die that day.

Not casualty rate. 8th air force bomber crew people had a 65% casualty rate. Second only to uboat crews.
