Shoot, a starter can pitch 7 scoreless innings, wind up as the only pitcher on
team that pitched more than an inning, wind up the only pitcher on the team that didn't give up a run, and still not get the credit for the win should the relievers give up the lead before the team eventually wins.

It's a ridiculous way to somehow view those innings as having not contributed to the win. As if the starter could have given up 20 runs in those innings and it wouldn't have mattered.

Pitching wins and losses really is one of the more useless stats in baseball.
