I thought I would be proactive and pay federal taxes I owe online a couple of weeks ago, via the IRS website. The money went through and I thought I was done and paid up.
Today, the IRS withdrew the same amount owed ... a second time. Evidently that was an automated withdrawal and it was going to go through no matter what.
So ... I am overdrawn on my checking account and asked my bank to cancel that last withdrawal — seeing that it was still a pending transaction. They are doing so, but there seems to be no way to speak to anyone via phone at the IRS to help rectify the situation.
Advice? Will they keep trying to withdraw money I already paid them?
