Coyotes estimated franchise value of $300-500mil got a bit inflated when the NHL
Decided to buy the franchise from Meruelo for $1.0 bil and then immediately turn around and sell to it Smith for $1.2-1.3 billion so the league can distribute $200-300 million to the other franchises.
Seems to me to a really shady transaction meant to artificially inflate the value of the NHL franchises, but what do I know.
