Sorry man, but playing at BYU does not equate to promoting the church
Collin, and other athletes or students, can be just as effective representatives of the church and of Christ at another school.

An awesome example of this is Justin Bean, who played at Utah State and is now playing in Europe. He was successful at Utah State and also very open about his testimony of the Savior.

It looks different for everyone, but attending BYU is ABSOLUTELY not even near the top of the list of every individual’s path to discipleship and promoting the gospel of Jesus Christ. It can be an effective tool, and it is the right thing for some people.

I cheer for the cougs just like most on this board, but I cringe when people take this view that playing for or attending BYU is somehow more “righteous” or a “higher path” or says they “believe that a nonmember who plays at Byu for four years promotes the church more than someone who goes on a mission and play somewhere else”. This “holier than thou” mentality is what bugs other fans about BYU, and thus, actually detracts from the image of Christ’s restored church.
