Back in the early 90’s when I was at BYU, I met this girl who was super sweet but was down on her luck. She was bummed because things didn’t work out with her boyfriend. She said she had been dating a big tall NCAA basketball player who was very intelligent, but also very spastic and insincere.

This girl and I fast became friends. She found I was not too intelligent, not so tall, but I was very sincere. I was a great shoulder to cry on!

Soon our friendship blossomed into a wonderful relationship. We courted and got engaged. The day of our wedding, she didn’t show up at the temple. I was devastated. I called her phone and it was disconnected. I finally got her cousin to answer my call.

I asked her what happened to my sweetheart and she said my fiancé went back to old boyfriend. Something about his NBA career didn’t work out and he was humbled and going to medical school.

I understood why she left me. Who wouldn’t for this dreamboat? But what I couldn’t get over was that she NEVER said goodbye or thanked me for being the sincere kind person who listened. Almost 30 years later, here I sit waiting for a thank you!!
