LaVell Edwards retires 2-3 years earlier and BYU hires Andy Reid as their head coach when he was the assistant head coach for Green Bay. The point being - if KY had gone on and gotten an NBA HC position and had success at the professional level and we were looking for a replacement for Pope in say, 3 years from now - would he still be interested in the BYU job? Or did we just happen to have perfect timing to have a vacancy at the right time to get Young as coach before he locked himself into a lucrative NBA head coaching position?
