While it sounds dumb, can I recommend a book on how to
approach networking? When I left a job, I wasted a lot of good contacts instead of networking properly. Here is the book:

"People Hire People Not Resumes" By Frank Danzo.

Anyone reading this with a job - good to build the skills and network while you have a job. It will enhance your career incredibly if you do it. (few do and I am a hypocrite because I didn't).

Also, don't be embarrased and tell the world. Everyone. You never know where a seed might be planted. For example, my last two jobs (CFO) I was connected by:

1. A college kid that my daughter babysat for (He introduced me to his dad)
2. A Chiropractor in my ward (the retiring CFO where I work now (best job I have ever had) was his patient).

Seriously, yell it from the rooftops.
