We've already seen this in baseball. D1 schools are no longer spending much
time and effort recruiting incoming freshmen. They are focusing their efforts and scholarships recruiting the JCs and transfer portal.

- Look at BYU's roster: 9 of the 15 upperclassmen came from another college before BYU.
- It's even more apparent on UVU's roster: they only have six freshmen and five sophomores on their roster. Of their 29 upperclassmen, only three came to UVU as freshmen.

Why waste time working with a freshman that will disappear after one or two years, when you can bring in a ready-to-play guy from a JC or a portal player from a major program? It is killer for incoming freshmen though. It's now becoming apparent that the best path to D1 baseball is to play at a JC for your first year or two, which often isn't a great career path after baseball.
