I argued for many years that the number of D1 athletes who actually
drive revenue is very small, and that they “get paid” in the form of elite coaching, exposure, and access to the professional ranks where they will actually get paid.
All the rest of these athletes have eyeballs on them because of the name on the front of their jersey, not the name on the back.
