denying that it has become lucrative for select schools. But it has always been percieved as amateurism at its best. Kids playing for pride, school, state. Now that's gone. Now they are playing for $$$ and their salaries are being paid by the fans. $$$ sours fans pretty fast. Overpaid bloated salaries to guys that can't make a free throw. They are now connected to the $$$ we are paying them to perform. Expectations of the athletes have changed overnight.
I may be wrong. Maybe fans will ignore the salaries on the floor and the rising ticket prices to pay for them. Maybe nobody will care. But I am inclined to believe that fans are just starting to get a grasp of how silly this is. Colleges better hope they can continue to keep salaries from being made public. Because right now it's kind of like hush money. If salaries are ever made public and we all can see a BYU Basketball payroll. I would wager things will go less than smoothly.
