is offensively. Hardy made a choice. He chose offense over defense. He probably did so because he wanted to open the floor for the other 4 guys. That's fine. But let's not pretend that Collins is good on defense. He's not. He's a crappy defender. The entire reason he has to play the 5 is because HE can't guard the perimeter. You claim Kessler can't guard the perimeter, yet you provide no empirical evidence. You also claim that was true of Gobert, but it isn't. It's a total falsehood. Gobert was just fine defending the perimeter. The issue was that when he was guarding the perimeter there was nobody guarding the rim. The other 4 defenders couldn't stop a ball handler to save their lives. That wasn't on Gobert. But you seem incapable of understanding that type of nuance. Claiming Gobert is a poor perimeter defender is something to expect from a casual who doesn't watch games.
I know Kessler regressed. But I think one reason why is because of the situation with Collins. The two couldn't play together because Collins can't play the 4. Kessler was in and out of the starting lineup and didn't know when his minutes would come. Those things impact players. There's a reason only a select few are really great sixth men. It's hard to be consistently good when your minutes and role fluctuate from night to night. Yes, Kessler has to get better. But I think it is better for the Jazz if he gets consistent minutes as a starter than it is to keep a guy who won't help them win anything at $26.5 million per. Collins is untradeable, period. Everybody says so. But it doesn't matter what anyone in the know says. You will just laugh it off and dismiss it because you are smarter than everyone.
