the water leaching into the ground is pretty nasty. The sewer ponds are literally 100 feet away and “above” the river in elevation.
Over the last 50 years, the underground water flow has created a bit of an underground river that flows into deer creek reservoir, which explains why we started getting algae blooms up there about ten years ago….now they are an annual occurrence.
Obviously that waste water flows down to lake Utah and through the Jordan into GSL.
There have been many water studies done on the Provo River water quality above the sewer ponds and then below. The water quality difference is atrocious.
I was working on a project along the Provo River located below the ponds and learned first hand how bad it is through a number of studies we did. I have since stepped away from the project, but apparently the state might be getting involved.
Due to 1) the crazy amount of growth in Wasatch County, 2) all the sewage in Midway and Heber is collected in these Midway ponds, and 3) because the pond’s technology is so old there is basically a lot of untreated waste water flowing downstream.
The people of Midway are pretty upset about it, but I think the rest of the people along the Wasatch front should be just as upset.
