I'm man enough to admit that needles are my Kryptonite. I thought I kicked the problem years ago... but I found myself on the ground this weekend with my wife holding my hand and my youngest son and his friends laughing (It is a long-standing family joke that neeles makes me faint).
I don't know when it started... but as a young kid, any time I got a shot/injection... I fainted.
It's not the blood.
It's not the needle.
I still have no idea what triggers it.
The 3 most embarrassing times it happened:
#1.. At the cottonwood mall in the 80's when i got my ear pierced on a dare. Getting ear pierced in the '80s was cool.. Passing out in the middle of the mall is not cool. The laughter from the girls working at the OrangeJulius still haunts me.
#2.. Getting my blood drawn for an insurance screening. I woke up under my kitchen table only to find my sons laughing so hard they couldn't breathe. My hand hurt and I couldn't understand why they took the sample from my hand... then I realized I accidentally hit (some say punched) the nurse as I fell to the floor.
#3... This weekend. I had gone a solid 15 years and dozens of shots without fainting... worse, It wasn't even me getting the shot. (Extra worse: it happened in front of a bunch of college athletes)
Stupid brain doing things without my consent!!!
