I want a move to 54 holes because the reality is that these guys are making so much money now that they just don't want to work as hard as pro golfers worked in the past.
The UFC gives some insight into this. Some of their most elite fighters only want to fight every year or so because they make so much money in that fight that they don't feel a need to fight more often.
Golfers are similar in a way.... if you're Rory and you're now worth more than $200M, what drives you to get on a plane to go to a regular event in California? Pro golfers turning down starts (where they are qualified to play) is happening more than ever. Not sure how long ago it happened but my guess is that 15 years ago that most golfers who qualified for the event showed up and played. It's just not that way today.
