Hillstead was better than Burton in every aspect except his height. Burton only faced a few defenses that were competent in High school and lost to them. McCae played in a spread offense and Burton was in a power I where the coach insured his son got the ball almost every handoff. Burton almost never threw the ball except in dire need and almost all of those throws were designed where he never had to read the defense. John Beck did BYU a disservice in recommending Burton over Hillstead.
